Aatu Räty was dealt to the Maple Leafs in exchange for Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr.

After clearing waivers on Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks traded center Aatu Räty to the Toronto Maple Leafs for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr. The 23-year-old had been with the organization since 2023 and played 106 regular-season NHL games with the Canucks. Ultimately, Vancouver's management group did not feel Räty would play a significant role in the future, which resulted in the trade to Toronto.

During the second intermission on Saturday, Co-President of Hockey Operations Daniel Sedin was interviewed on Sportsnet by Dan Murphy. Among the topics discussed was the Räty trade and why Ryan Johnson and his staff felt this was the best move moving forward. In his answer, Sedin spoke not only about Räty, but also about the two forwards the Canucks acquired.

"Yeah, I mean, the two players we got from Toronto are players that our scouts were really high on," said Sedin. "So we're happy we got those two players. But (Räty) is obviously a guy we worked closely with for a lot of years, and he's a great person. We want him to do well and hopefully get a chance in Toronto to show that."

It took one game for Räty to hit the scoresheet with the Toronto Marlies. The Finnish center recorded an assist along with two shots in his debut on Saturday. As for Vancouver's newest players, Quillan is set to make his debut with the Abbotsford Canucks on Saturday night, while Buhr has been assigned to the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL.
