Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports - Canucks Phil Di Guiseppe Talks 'Quiet Desperation' Of Staying In Playoff Lineup

Vancouver Canucks forward Phil Di Guiseppe was in and out of the lineup all season but has played in all four games of the first round.

Di Guiseppe has one assist in the first four games but has been a critical contributor to the penalty kill and physical play.

"There's a quiet desperation. All these games are high stakes, and for myself, you don't want to be in and out. You want to be contributing and making an impact," Di Guiseppe said. "You want that feeling of enjoying the crowd, enjoying the moment. It's special playing these games. That's what gets me going."

The winger is one of the most used forwards in his penalty-killing role. He has averaged 1:18 of shorthanded time on ice during the series' first four games. The Nashville Predators are 1 for 15 on the man advantage so far.

"Everyone that goes on the penalty kill, I think we all take tremendous pride in being able to just do that job," he explained. "It's a big momentum swing, getting a kill in any game, but especially in the playoffs. I can speak for myself and others, that's our chance to chip in and build that momentum. I think so far we've done a good job."

Di Giuseppe has also averaged around three hits a game during the playoffs.

"My mindset hasn't changed much. It's just, I think, with the level of passion, the level of energy in the building, I'm trying to use that, and I think that's a byproduct of it," Di Giuseppe said. "Feeding off that energy in that moment and not thinking out there."

Di Giuseppe has been on the Canucks fourth line with Sam Lafferty and Teddy Blueger.
