With training camp less than a month of the way, one of the topics that will start getting a bit more attention is PTOs. While a PTO doesn't guarantee a contract, it is a helpful method to get a closer look at players who could help a team during the season. Considering that the Vancouver Canucks do not have a ton of experience in net outside of Thatcher Demko, here is a look at four goaltenders Vancouver could bring in on a PTO during training camp.
Martin Jones
Starting with a local connection, Martin Jones would be a fantastic addition to the goaltending group. Last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jones went 11-8-1 with a .902 save percentage. Now 34, the one-time Stanley Cup Champion brings over 450 games of experience and would be able to finish off his career close to home.
Aaron Dell
Aaron Dell is another intriguing option that could provide some competition in training camp. The 35-year-old spent last season in the AHL, posting a record of 7-4-1 with the Ontario Reign. If anything, Dell would be an excellent mentor to the Canucks young goaltending group, as he has had success at both the NHL and AHL levels during his career.
Dustin Tokarski
One trait of Vancouver's management group that has become very apparent is that they like bringing in players with whom they have worked in the past. This could be the case for Dustin Tokarski, who played 18 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2019-20 season when Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin were with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. Coming off an AHL season where he went 11-9-3 with the Rochester Americans, Tokarski can still play and should receive a PTO somewhere this offseason.
Oscar Dansk
Sticking with the Swedish route, Oscar Dansk is a strong PTO option. He went 11-12-3 with the Calgary Wranglers last season and has been paired with another young star goaltender, Dustin Wolf, over the previous two years. Now 30, Dansk has 170 games of AHL experience and even has some familiarity with Jiří Patera, as the two were part of the Henderson Silver Knights during the 2020-21 season.
