The noise surrounding Vancouver Canucks center Elias Pettersson just keeps getting louder. The 27-year-old has struggled offensively so far this season, recording just 35 points in 51 games. Pettersson's name has also been attached to trade rumours, which has created a storm on social media.
Pettersson underperforming is amplified due to his $11.6 million cap hit. The deal has not aged well as the Swedish center has produced 80 points in his last 115 games. On Monday, which was the two year anniversary of the contract, Pettersson was asked about his contract and how difficult it is to live up to expectations due to the large cap hit.
"I mean, who wouldn't," said Pettersson during his media scrum on Monday. "I mean, I haven't lived up to expectations of contract, and I'll be the first one say it. Obviously I wish it would be different. Play better, a lot more points, but it is what it is. Play a good game tonight and see what happens."
During his media avaliability, Pettersson was also asked about his name being attached to trade rumours leading up to the deadline. Despite having a no movement clause, insiders have speculated that a change of scenary could be best for both the player and team. When asked about the rumours, Pettersson gave his blunt opinon about the noise.
"I mean, it's you guys who makes the trade rumors. So ask yourself."
