The Vancouver Canucks’ top performers from January 31 to February 15.

THN's The Wraparound Show-Marcus Pettersson's Extension

Welcome back to another instalment of Top Five at 15/30. Last time, we looked at the Vancouver Canucks’ top performers from January 15 to 30. This time, we’ll be looking at the best performances from players throughout the first half of February. Here are the top five Canucks for January 31 to February 15 (4 Nations Face-Off performances not included).

Tyler Myers

Most notable game: January 31 vs. Dallas Stars

Points since the 30th: 2A in 5GP

Since returning from his three-game suspension served due to his cross-check on Edmonton Oilers defender Evan Bouchard, Tyler Myers has seemed to hit another gear. Heading into the 4 Nations Face-Off break, he was playing on a pair with new addition Marcus Pettersson, with whom he has played alongside excellently. With a healthy Quinn Hughes hopefully back in the lineup come the Canucks' return date of February 22, Myers could potentially elevate his game even more.

Marcus Pettersson

Most notable game: February 4 vs. Colorado Avalanche

Points since the 30th: 0P in 4GP

Acquired on January 31 as part of a blockbuster day for the Canucks, Pettersson has been everything as advertised and more. Despite only playing four games for the team, he has made a big impact on Vancouver’s defensive core and even signed a six-year extension worth $5.5M AAV. He has yet to register his first point with his new team, but with the way he has managed to lock down the blueline with calm plays, he is still contributing greatly to the team’s success.

Filip Chytil

Most notable game: February 2 vs. Detroit Red Wings

Points since the 30th: 1G, 2A in 4GP

Filip Chytil started his campaign as a member of the Canucks by making a speedy impression on his new fanbase. His skill of carrying the puck out of Vancouver’s zone has been refreshing for fans to see, and adds a new level of speed to the team’s play. It’s clear that Chytil was — and still is — excited to be on the Canucks, which is prevalent in his ecstatic goal celebrations. As Chytil gets adjusted to his new team’s structure, it’s uncertain whether he will still play with the same level of speed. Regardless, it has been exciting to see him hit the ice.

Filip Hronek

Most notable game: February 8 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

Points since the 30th: 1G, 4A in 5GP

In lieu of Hughes’ absence, Vancouver’s defense has stepped their play up big-time. Filip Hronek has arguably made the biggest steps, as he has been the team’s highest-producing defender since Hughes left the lineup. It seems as though he has settled back into his game after a couple of tough games post-injury return. During this span of time, he led the team in TOI with a total of 124:22 minutes played.

Thatcher Demko

Most notable game: February 4 vs. Colorado Avalanche

Record since the 30th: 2–1–0

Earning second star of the week honours before the 4 Nations Break, Thatcher Demko was a huge part of Vancouver’s success at the start of February. He recorded a shutout against the current points leader in the NHL, Nathan MacKinnon, and nearly had a second one the game after against the San Jose Sharks. Unfortunately, in a solid first period against the Leafs, Demko was taken out of the game due to another injury. The Canucks have yet to announce when he will be back.
