Welcome back to another Vancouver Canucks 2024–25 report card. In this series, The Hockey News - Canucks site recaps individual players’ 2024–25 seasons and assigns them a letter grade based on how they performed. Today, we’ll be taking a look at forward Nils Höglander’s 2024–25 season.

Höglander entered the 2024–25 season coming off an impressive 2023–24 campaign. The season prior, he impressed Canucks fans by scoring 24 even-strength goals — double the amount of his previous career-high — and added 12 assists in an 80-game effort. He caught a little bit of heat for a lack of playoff production, but still, fans were curious about how 2024–25 would go.

Evidently, this year was very different for Höglander compared to his career season the year before. Regardless of the point totals, the first half of the season saw a slightly uncharacteristic Höglander — one who wasn’t very noticeable on the ice compared to the past. In the back half, however, things began to change. This season was difficult for many players for a variety of reasons, both on and off the ice, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this chaos also impacted the way Höglander played.

Despite getting off to a pretty hot start by scoring two goals in the first five games of the season, Höglander went 34 straight games without finding the back of the net. He scored his second goal of the season on October 19, 2024 against the Philadelphia Flyers, but didn’t put home his third until January 14, 2025 against the Winnipeg Jets. After this, however, his scoring started to get a little more consistent.

The back half of Höglander’s 2024–25 season was noticeably different. Points wise, he added enough to finish the season with eight goals and 17 assists in 72 games, with 16 of his points on the season coming after January 14. Despite the slow fall and winter months, he still ended up with a 25-point effort on the season — 11 removed from the 36 he had in 2023–24.

Höglander’s most successful stint in the season was definitely in March and April. He had a goal and seven assists in 11 games played throughout the month of March, though his month was cut short due to an injury sustained on March 22 against the New York Rangers. During this month, he also recorded two multi-point games — on the 15th against the Chicago Blackhawks and on the 18th against the Jets. After recovering from his injury, Höglander returned to the lineup on April 6 against the Vegas Golden Knights and tallied one goal. In his final six games of the season, he scored two goals and two assists.

A lot of factors went into the 2024–25 season result for the Canucks. The same can be said for players’ individual performances, such as Höglander’s, who encountered a slump after a career year the season prior. All things considered, Höglander’s 2024–25 season receives a C for a letter grade, as he did show improvement from his mistakes in the first half of the year.
