The Vancouver Canucks enter the 2025 NHL Entry Draft with a pick in each round. Leading up to the draft day, we at The Hockey News will be profiling a different prospect who the Canucks could take with each of their picks. Today's prospect is Calgary Hitmen center Brandon Gorzynski, who Vancouver could select 143rd overall.

After a tough first season in the WHL, Gorzynski found his footing in 2024-25, recording 42 points in 68 games. The 6'2", 185 lbs forward was then productive in the post-season, as he finished with eight points in 11 games. Overall, Gorzynski is a versatile player as he can play both down the middle and on the wing.

Gorzynski is an offensive-minded forward who uses his strong skating to create scoring chances. He can beat defenders to loose pucks and has improved his ability to win board battles throughout the season. Gorzynski's playmaking ability also took a step forward this season, which helped him become a more rounded player in the offensive zone.

When watching Gorzynski, the biggest trend that stood out was his determination to get to the middle of the ice. He also developed into a strong net-front presence, as he used his size to his advantage. Ultimately, it is clear that Gorzynski understands the value of creating from the slot, as he often elected to carry pucks into that area rather than testing goaltenders from low-danger areas.

The next step in Gorzynski's development will be improving on the defensive side of the game. While he has good positioning, he needs to work on being more aggressive in the defensive zone, as well as controlling the puck in the transition game. If Gorzynski can continue to develop this part of his game, he will become a difficult player to contain at the pro level.

Gorzynski is an intriguing prospect as he continued to get better throughout the season. He jumped from 81st to 50th on NHL Central Scouting's Final Rankings and will have been viewed many times by Canucks management as he played on the same team as Sawyer Mynio. In the end, he fits the mould of prospect that Vancouver should be adding to their organization, and would be a smart fifth-round selection this year.
