The Vancouver Canucks enter the 2025 NHL Entry Draft with a pick in each round. Leading up to the draft day, we at The Hockey News will be profiling a different prospect who the Canucks could take with each of their picks. Today's prospect is Chicago Steel center Teddy Mutryn, who Vancouver could select 143rd overall.

The Canucks need more size down the middle, which is why Mutryn is an intriguing fifth-round option. The 18-year-old is listed at 6'1", 210lbs, and isn't afraid to play a physical game. Mutryn also showed this season that he can produce offensively, recording 30 points in 47 games in the USHL.

When watching Mutyrn, one area that stands out is his skating. Overall, he is a decent skater for someone his size, which allows him to forecheck hard and try to create turnovers. Mutyrn is also good at driving the net and can constantly win puck battles along the boards.

Mutyrn has also developed into a decent defender. He is positionally sound and can use his long reach to disrupt plays. Once he recovers the puck in the defensive zone, Mutyrn has shown that he can hit teammates with accurate passes, which often kickstarts the transition game.

An area that Mutyrn needs to keep developing is his puck-handling ability. He would rather jump in on the forecheck than carry the puck, and often elects to head straight for the net in the offensive zone. If he is going to play center at the pro level, he will need to work on his ability to skate with the puck on his stick and become stronger on carry zone entries.

Mutyrn has already committed to Boston College next season, which should help his overall development. He has some intriguing tools, but needs to enhance them before making the jump to pro. If he can keep improving year after year at the NCAA level, he could become a useful player for the organization in the future.
