Vegas went into Winnipeg on Thursday and turned away a late 2-1 deficit to win 3-2 in overtime
The Golden Knights extended their win streak to four games when wing Ivan Barbashev scored with 1:15 left in overtime to lift Vegas past the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 at Canada Life Centre on Thursday.
It marked the Knights' eighth straight win over the Jets.
Vegas trailed 1-0 heading into the third period, but wing Keegan Kolesar scored 4:34 into the stanza to tie the game. The Jets answered with a goal from Josh Morrisey to regain the lead, but Golden Knights wing Victor Olofsson tied the game with 1:49 left in regulation during a five-on-three power-play.
Here are three takeaways from the game:
POWER: This wasn't just a battle of Western Conference heavyweights, but two power-play contenders that came into the game in the top six with a man advantage. Vegas was ranked sixth in the league while the Jets ranked second. The Golden Knights finished 1 of 4 on the power play while Winnipeg was 0 for 1. The Jets had scored four power-play goals in their previous two games. Vegas now has three power-play goals in its last two contests.
THE CAPTAIN: Once again, captain Mark Stone was relevant on the ice in just his second game back after missing 14 games. After an assist in the 3-2 win over Dallas on Dec. 6, Stone had the primary assist on Olofsson's goal that sent the game into overtime. Despite missing 17% of a full season already, Stone is still on pace for a record season in points. His career-high 64 points came during the 2014-15 season. After Thursday he's on pace to register 104 points.
MULTI-SHEA: Defenseman Shea Theodore registered his third-straight multi-point game, with assists on Vegas' last two goals of the game. Those helpers followed two goals in Anaheim on Dec. 4 and two assists against the Stars. Theodore now has 43 career multi-assist games, six of them coming this season.
