The Vegas Golden Knights have now dropped three consecutive games to the Dallas Stars after losing Game 5, 3-2.

The Golden Knights opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by Mark Stone. His second goal of the playoffs came on an early power play opportunity. A similar goal to his first goal in Game 1.

Evgenii Dadonov answered quickly and Matt Duchene added another to give the Stars the lead. William Carrier scored his first goal of the playoffs at 12:31 of the first period. He jammed in a wrap-around to tie the game at 2-2.

In the second period, Tyler Seguin was given a two-minute penalty for an illegal check to the head on Shea Theodore. Seguin was initially given a five-minute major but it was changed to a minor after it was reviewed.

Alex Pietrangelo took exception to the hit and knocked Seguin in the face with his forearm. Pietrangelo was also initially given a major before it was changed to a minor upon review.

The undisciplined penalty came back to haunt the Golden Knights as Jason Robertson scored on the man advantage to give the Stars the lead.

The Golden Knights were not pleased with the hit by Seguin but understood that there was a better way to respond to the hit than what Pietrangelo did.

"A veteran guy should know better," said HC Bruce Cassidy about Pietrangelo. "We didn’t like the hit on Theodore by Seguin. You’re going to be upset. But that’s playoff hockey. You’ve got to find a way to channel it."

The hopes of the fresh young legs of Pavel Dorofeyev making an impact didn't work out the way the Golden Knights and Cassidy would have liked. He played just 7:11 tonight and finished with no shots on goal or any hits. Ben Hutton finished with three blocks, one shot on goal and was a +1 in 13:48. He also made a pass to Brett Howden who proceeded to hit the crossbar in the first period. Adin Hill stopped 22 of the 25 shots he faced but looked uncomfortable in the crease for most of the night.

The Golden Knights will now travel back home in a do-or-die Game 6 at home on Friday.
