The former Staley Cup Champions Vegas Golden Knights won't be able to repeat as championships after losing 2-1 in Game 7 to the Dallas Stars.

Former Golden Knights HC Pete DeBoer improves to 8-0 in Game 7s in his coaching career. Jake Oettinger stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced and Radek Faksa's early third-period goal was the difference maker.

Adin Hill made 22 saves but it wasn't enough for the Golden Knights to win.

Wyatt Johnston opened the scoring in the first period after a Shea Theodore pass hopped over the stick of Tomas Hertl.

The third line was able to tie the game in the second period. Brett Howden drove to the net without the puck and was wide open for a back door tap-in. Michael Amadio and William Karlsson picked up the assists on the goal.

Jack Eichel nearly scored the goal of the playoffs but he couldn't get his backhand shot on net.

44 seconds into the third period, Faksa restored the Stars lead. Faksa missed the previous four games with an injury before returning for Game 7.

With the win, the Stars will play the Colorado Avalanche in the second round of the playoffs.
