Vegas Golden Knights still leads series 2-1 over Florida Panthers.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports - Golden Knights falter late in Game 3 overtime loss to Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla., - The Vegas Golden Knights suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Jonathan Marchessault scored again and tallied an assist. Mark Stone also scored. Adin Hill made 20 saves.

“Overall I thought we played a pretty solid game,” Stone said. “They’re a resilient team. We got to bounce back and get ready for the next one.”

    Analysis

It’s a game that Vegas played well in spurts, but ultimately couldn’t get the third goal that would have won the game.

It is easy to say that Vegas went into its shell too early, but it was more a case of failing to get a quality offensive chance against Sergei Bobrovsky.

“I thought we were doing a lot of things correct,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We just couldn’t get the next one to put the nail into the coffin. You got to give them their share of credit. In overtime, you never know.”

If Vegas is to grab a 3-1 lead in Game 4, it will need to find a way to beat Bobrovsky again. Bobrovsky was seemingly reenergized by his home crowd and made 25 saves (20-for-20 in 5-on-5 situations).

Special teams were solid for the Golden Knights, scoring both its goals on the man advantage. The penalty kill remained perfect in the Stanley Cup Final, stopping all five of the Panthers power-play opportunities.

Hill was OK, making big saves, but he couldn’t make the timely save on Carter Verhaeghe’s goal.

    Shining Knight of the Game

    Marchessault again.

The forward has 13 goals in these playoffs, which continues to add to the Vegas record book for the most goals in a postseason. He also added an assist in the first period.
