Hanifin scores game-winner, as Vegas picks up 3-1 victory against Stars
Noah Hanifin scored his first career NHL Stanley Cup Playoff goal, as the Vegas Golden Knights picked up a 3-1 victory against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Wednesday.
Jack Eichel and Jonathan Marchessault each had a goal and an assist, while Logan Thompson made 20 saves in the win.
“The veteran group we have, I think it just shows, we know how to win,” Thompson said. “We've done it all year. We did last year. That's just the experience of our group coming through and just shutting them down and keeping me outside and making my life a lot easier.”
After Dallas took a 1-0 lead, Marchessault scored to tie the game at 18:09.
Hanifin then scored the game-winner at 18:53 of the second period, and Eichel added the empty-net goal at 19:26 for the 3-1 final.
Vegas is undefeated (4-0) when they have a 2-0 lead in a playoff series.
“We're that much closer to our main goal, first and foremost and understanding how we're playing to get there,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “Now, for me, I'm thinking ‘OK, let's just be better in Game 3 at home, and let's not assume anything.’ They're going to come in ready to go. They know they're up against it.”
