Jack Eichel has a five-point game in final preseason outing - a 7-4 victory,
The Vegas Golden Knights wrapped up their preseason slate with another come-from-behind victory, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday.
The Golden Knights scored four goals in the third period.
Jack Eichel had two goals. Jonathan Marchessault, Ivan Barbashev, Nicolas Roy, Shead Theodore and Chandler Stephenson also scored. Adin Hill made 22 saves.
The Golden Knights kick off their regular season schedule on Tuesday against the Seattle Kraken at T-Mobile Arena.
“It was good to feel good about ourselves heading into Tuesday’s game,” Eichel said. “It should be a great atmosphere. Every night in T-Mobile is special. It should be a cool one having the banner raised. It’s onto business. It’s another season for us. After that happens, turn the page and start building.”
The Golden Knights found themselves, trailing again for what seems to be the umpteenth time this preseason.
They fell behind 2-0 before Barbashev scored a goal.
“Our starts have been nothing less than disappointing. We definitely have to be better Tuesday night, and hopefully our team is more ready to start.”
There were times when Vegas took time to “get to its game” last season, but the important thing is that it always did and found ways to rally back from deficits. It will be interesting to see how the team comes out Tuesday after the week’s events, ranging from appearing at the Raiders’ game, getting their rings and a banner raising ceremony.
The power play will be heavily under the microscope as it is the one area Vegas can make serious improvements.
Against the Kings, the Golden Knights went 2-for-5 on the man advantage, showing glimpses of what is possible for Vegas on the power play.
“They didn’t start well. The first one, we were unorganized and not ready for pressure. That happens to us sometimes the first one unfortunately,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “That’s one me to make sure we get that focused mindset. After that, they did a good job recognizing pressure on the goal.”
Eichel looked to be regular-season ready with a five-point performance – three coming as part of the clinching third period.
“He’s a gifted player. I’m not that surprised,” That’s what we expect from him every game,” Marchessault said. “He’s play driver. He’s a horse. We rely on him a lot. It’s definitely nice to see him do so well there.”
Eichel will be a big part of why Vegas has a chance to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. He’s elevated his game to be a two-way player and is showing glimpse of being that point-per-game player that everyone expects him to be.
