Former Vegas Golden Knights centre Byron Froese has signed a one-year deal with KHL franchise, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

The 33-year-old spent the past two seasons splitting his team with the Golden Knights and the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL. He played in 24 games with the Golden Knights scoring one goal and three points. With the Silver Knights, he scored 23 goals and 65 points in 113 games.

Known for his defensive game and his ability to win faceoffs, Froese spent his NHL career as a fourth-line centre with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames where he put up seven goals and 20 points in 141 games.

Froese will be heading over to Europe for the first time in his career. Before playing in the NHL he spent his junior career in the WHL.

The move to the KHL isn't all that surprising when taking into account his age. He wants to be paid a professional salary and wasn't going to be given that opportunity in the NHL.
