The Vegas Golden Knights have extended qualifying offers to Pavel Dorofeyev and Kaedan Korzcak and are letting Akira Schmid become a free agent.
It was expected that the Golden Knights would QO Dorofeyev ($866,250) and Korczak ($813,750) considering their age and the role they will likely have to play on a cap-ridden roster.
Dorofeyev missed time last year due to an injury and featured in just one playoff game but the 23-year-old was gaining more confidence in himself before the injury and head coach Bruce Cassidy was taking notice.
The Russian winger scored 13 goals and 24 points in 47 games. Before his injury, he built a lot of chemistry playing with Mark Stone in a defensive role. His 6'1 and 194 lbs frame is a lot to handle on the forecheck.
Korczak, also 23 years old is 6'4 and plays both ends of the ice well. With the current Golden Knights defence core, Korczak will fit in nicely. He picked up a good amount of NHL experience last year playing in 26 games scoring one goal and nine points.
Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that the Golden Knights have also sent Ivan Morozov a qualifying offer to retain his rights.
Schmid was recently acquired from the New Jersey Devils and despite not receiving a qualifying offer, Elliotte Friedman reports that many teams expect he will sign with the Golden Knights.
Not offering him a qualifying offer could mean the Golden Knights will be handing him a two-way deal which will allow him to go from the Golden Knights to the Henderson Silver Knights without the use of waivers.
In addition to Schmid, Layton Ahac and Mason Primeau were not given qualifying offers.
If the Golden Knights want to send Korczak or Dorofeyev to the minors they will both require waivers.
