Following the Vegas Golden Knights' elimination from the playoffs, forwards Jonas Rondbjerg and William Karlsson departed for the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship to represent their countries.

Rondbjerg joined Team Denmark and immediately had an impact, scoring twice, with both of his first two career World Championship goals coming in the second period to provide Denmark a commanding lead over Norway. Denmark would go on to win the game 6-3, putting themselves even with Germany for the final top-four spot in Group B. Germany and Denmark are set to play on the final matchday, and the game will be the decider for who advances to the knockout rounds.

Recent reports say Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers will join Team Denmark, which should provide the Danes with a major boost.

Team Sweden has been dominant, leading Group A with a perfect 6-0-0-0 record. They have one final game remaining in the group stage against Canada, and it will likely be the deciding game for who sits atop Group A.

Karlsson has represented Sweden at the World Championship just once, winning a gold medal and scoring one goal and three points in 10 games. The 32-year-old will likely use this tournament as an opportunity to further prove that he deserves a roster spot on Sweden's 2026 Olympic team. He missed 29 games this season, including the 4 Nations Face-Off, and scored just nine goals and 29 points in 53 games.
