Vegas Golden Knights leading goal scorer Ivan Barbashev suffered an upper-body injury in Sunday's game against the Minnesota Wild.

In the second period, Barbashev got tangled up with Wild forward Marcus Foligno and went down hard. He was slow to get up, exiting the game and not returning.

The 29-year-old is enjoying the best season of his career, scoring 15 goals and 30 points in the club's first 31 games, averaging the second-highest TOI and the highest shooting percentage of his career. He and Jack Eichel have been the driving forces of the Golden Knights offence for a lot of the season and the Golden Knights will be hoping Barbashev's ailment is short term.

HC Bruce Cassidy spoke to the media following Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Wild and said he has no other update on Barbashev other than the injury he's dealing with is an upper-body injury.

Some possible good news for the Golden Knights is that they are returning home from their difficult three-game road trip with a 2-1-0 record and don't play again until Thursday when they host the Vancouver Canucks. This mini break gives Barbashev some time to nurse his injury.

If Barbashev misses some time, it appears that Victor Olofsson could be the one to step into the first-line left-winger role. He took shifts on the top line once Barbashev left the game and finished with two goals, one coming on the power play in the first period and his other being the eventual game-winner in the third period.
