Vegas Golden Knights prospects Mathieu Cataford and Trevor Connelly have been invited to their respective country's World Junior Selection Camps.

Cataford missed out on making Canada's roster last year, but after winning QMJHL MVP and continuing his success again this year, he's a favourite to make the roster and play a vital role.

The 19-year-old currently leads the QMJHL in points, recording 11 goals and 38 points in 25 games. His ability to create high-danger chances as often as he does will be an asset that Team Canada will rely on to help them win Gold.

Connelly's invite to Team USA's selection camp doesn't come as a surprise either. He was a key figure in their U-18s roster that won silver and is one of the most skilled eligible players the USA have.

The 18-year-old missed some game action this year with an injury but has been excellent when healthy. In 10 NCAA games, he's scored two goals and 10 points and is the only player on Providence to score at a point-per-game pace.

Cataford and Connelly are expected to make their teams but will need to prove it one final time at the selection camp. The IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship will be held in Ottawa from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, with both Golden Knights prospects possibly playing on teams expected to compete for gold.
