
The Tahoe Knight Monsters played their first-ever ECHL game, which resulted in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Jacksonville Icemen.
The Knight Monsters held most of the possession and outshot the Icemen 39-24, but Matt Vernon, the Icemen's goaltender, shut the door and held the Knight Monsters to just three goals.
The Knight Monsters opened the scoring thanks to Artur Cholach, the Vegas Golden Knights' sixth-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft.
The Icemen scored three unanswered goals before the Knight Monsters mounted a third-period comeback. Down two goals heading into the third period, Brennan Kapcheck and Simon Pinard scored to tie the game at 3-3.
In overtime, Brendan Harris potted his second goal of the game to give the Icemen the 4-3 win. It was an awkward exchange between netminder Jesper Vikman and forward Jake McGrew.
The Knight Monsters may have dropped their inaugural game at home but there was a lot to like for the newest ECHL franchise. They carried the play against an established ECHL team and gave themselves an opportunity to win the game.
The Knight Monsters seek revenge against the Icemen as they'll host them once again tonight at home at 7:30 P.M. PST.
