The Vegas Golden Knights announced on Monday that William Karlsson and Jack Eichel will serve as alternating assistant captains for the 2023-24 season.
Karlsson is slated to be the assistant captain at home games, while Eichel is expected to be assistant captain on away games.
"'Karly's' connection is obvious. He's one of the original Knights. We didn't want to lose that when we lost Reilly," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. "Jack's a little more a younger guy coming. He's been a captain in the league. Looking forward down the road a little bit, so you have different age groups in your locker room. That' why did the split."

Cassidy said there were "a lot of deserving guys," adding that Brayden McNabb, Shea Theodore, Alec Martinez, and Jonathan Marchessault could have also been chosen.
"At the end of the day leadership will never be an issue in our room." he said.
Karlsson had previously worn the letter whenever Reilly Smith was out of the lineup, while Eichel wore it throughout the preseason when he appeared.
"It's a great honor. I"m very happy. I've been here a long time," Karlsson said. "I got some experience. I'm 30 years old, about to say 31, but not there yet. I think Bruce touched on it. We have a lot of leaders on this team. It could have gone to a lot of other guys too. I'm very honored."
