Vegas was reported to be in the running to sign Kane's services before signing with Detroit.
Patrick Kane is experiencing a bit of a resurgence with the Detroit Red Wings. He has 14 points in 15 games with the Red Wings.
But according to Mike Grinnell, he could have been a Vegas Golden Knight.
Grinnell tweeted that the final three choices for Kane were Vegas, Boston and Detroit.
He mentioned that Boston tried selling him on the idea of playing alongside David Pasternak. Vegas tried getting Kane to buy into living the Las Vegas - probably Summerlin - lifestyle.
Ultimately, Grinnell reported that his heart was always in Detroit.
That said, Kane would have been an interesting fit for Vegas.
For one, it would have been interesting to see which Golden Knight would have been bumped out of the lineup.
The Golden Knights, when fully healthy in the forward position, already bump Pavel Dorofeyev in most cases.
The second question is how much would have signed for given Vegas’s propensity to be near the upper end of the salary cap.
It does no good to speculate now that Kane has signed with the Red Wings.
But if Vegas was one of the top three choices alongside Detroit and Boston, it goes to show that Vegas will be in on any player it feels can help them win now.
