One of the most NHL-ready prospects in the draft, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard could be on the Vegas Golden Knights radar if he slips in the draft.
Listed at 6'1, 198 lbs, the 18-year-old forward was born in Norway and has recorded impressive numbers everywhere he played.
With Mora IK in HockeyAllsvenskan, the Swedish second league, Brandsegg-Nygard scored eight goals and 18 points in 41 games. The World Juniors and the World Championship was where the 2005-born winger showed his talent. In five games at the World Juniors, he scored three goals and five points in five games. At the World Championship, he potted three goals and five points in seven games.
His mature game is built off of his incredible work ethic and his big frame which makes him a physical threat. He has a lethal shot with a lot of power behind it. His speed and transition ability give him the time and space to show his release. He's also very effective on the power play when he has a lane to walk in off of the boards.
The matureness of his game is also highlighted by his defensive capabilities. He is always positioned in the correct spots to block passing lanes and does a great job of knocking the puck off of his opponent's stick. He closes in on defenseman on the blueline and is active on both the forecheck and the backcheck.
His skillset combined with his hockey IQ leaves little risk about what Brandsegg-Nygard's floor can be. His floor projects to be a third-line winger who is trusted in every scenario with the ability to chip in offensively. His ceiling however could be a top-six winger with 30-goal potential.
Brandsegg-Nygard fits the mould of the player the Golden Knights love to use and would be closer to joining the lineup than many of the other prospects in the Golden Knights range.
