The Vegas Golden Knights made four draft picks during the 2024 NHL Entry draft, those players were Trevor Connelly, Pavel Moysevich, Trent Swick and Lucas Van Vliet.
The Golden Knights used their 19th overall pick on Trevor Connelly, an ultra-talented American winger.
Their next pick didn't come until the third round when they selected goaltender Pavel Moysevich with the 83rd pick. The 6'5 goaltender has put up stellar numbers in the KHL and VHL. Born on Sep. 29, 2004, if the Belarusian goaltender has another strong season in the KHL he could quickly become one of the Golden Knights' top prospects.
The 19-year-old is calm in his net and plays a simple game. He uses his size to his advantage to cut the angle down on shooters and to control rebounds.
After no selections in rounds four and five, the Golden Knights finally made a pick in round six, using it on Trent Swick, a 6'7 overeager. Born in 2004, Swick played with the Kitchener Rangers last year scoring 25 goals and 62 points in 63 games.
Despite his massive frame, Swick is more of a playmaker than a scorer but is still a great net-front presence.
With their final pick in the draft, the Golden Knights selected Lucas Van Vliet with the 197th overall pick. The 6'2 winger played with the USNTDP last year scoring 17 goals and 30 points in 70 games. Next year the 18-year-old will be heading to Michigan State to begin his NCAA career.
Van Vliet is a smooth skater with a wicked shot. Unlike Swick who's a natural playmaker, Van Vliet is a primary shooter.
The Golden Knights came out of this draft with skill and size. The shortest player they drafted was Connelly who is 6'1. When making selections later in the draft, teams are looking for players with traits that could bring them to the NHL but it takes them a long time to figure out what that is. Swick and Van Vliet have some traits in their size and energy but need to continue their development.
