The NHL's “First Star” presented by GEICO for the month of October, has been announced and it is none other than Golden Knights star center, Jack Eichel. This recognizes his standout performance that helped propel Vegas to the top of the Pacific Division.
Eichel, who secured an eight-year, $108 million contract extension before the season opener, led the league in scoring with 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) across 11 games. His offensive performance included points in eight of those contests, highlighted by an accomplished seven-game streak to start the season (Oct. 8–20), during which he racked up 16 points.
The 29-year-old celebrated his birthday in style on October 28, notching a 2-goal, 1-assist performance against Carolina.
“He’s hot. He's hot,” Teammate Ivan Barbashev said following the game. “He’s been one of our biggest reasons on the power play. He likes to control the puck and he’s been our best player so far.”
Eichel has recorded six multi-point games, one shy of teammate Mitch Marner’s league-leading seven. He was the only player to post multiple four-point outings in October, a 1-goal, 3-assist game against Los Angeles (Oct. 8) and a 4-assist night versus Calgary (Oct. 18), marking his third career game with four assists.
His October dominance couldn’t be ignored. He led the NHL in power-play assists (9) and power-play points (9), ranked fourth in shots on goal (47), tied for fifth in assists (11) and game-winning goals (2), and placed eighth in goals scored (8). Since joining the Knights in the 2021–22 season, Eichel has maintained a stellar pace with 272 points in 252 games (1.08 points per game), contributing to his career total of 627 points through 627 games.
As part of its ongoing partnership with the NHL, GEICO also celebrates fans through the “Fourth Star” program, spotlighting the passion and loyalty of hockey’s most dedicated supporters.
