The Washington Capitals put on a show offensively on Tuesday in Boston, and it paid off against the Bruins.

Washington went the distance with 41 shots, and Matthew Phillips played her to win it 5-4 in overtime.

Overtime

4:04 — Matthew Phillips wins it 5-4 with a great move and absolute snipe.

0:48 — Tom Wilson breaks away, but it looks like Linus Ullmark's able to keep it out and cover. It was under review for a while, but there's no definitive proof it crossed the line. No goal. Officials say it didn't cross the line, though that's not confirmed.

Third Period

20:00 — Both teams tied at 4 and going to 3-on-3 OT. Goals from John Carlson and Matthew Poitras in that frame.

16:42 — Anthony Mantha hits another post after some great pressure.

12:31 — Trevor van Riemsdyk to the box. Late PK coming up.

4:57 — Matthew Poitras ties things up 4-4.

0:43 — John Carlson nets a power-play goal off a point blast to make it 4-3.

Second Period

20:00 — Both teams tied at 3 after Milan Lucic evened the score. WSH leads 23-14 in SOG.

19:00 — Washington gets another late PP opportunity.

11:20 — Nicolas Aube-Kubel is back on the ice after being hit in the ear with a puck earlier in the frame.

9:51 — Tom Wilson going off for hooking. Washington back to the PK. Wilson fuming, Spencer Carbery with some passion from the bench.

8:25 — Bruins tie it 3-3. Milan Lucic gets credit for the goal, which went in off of Sonny Milano's stick.

7:05 — Nicolas Aube-Kubel caught a puck to the ear. Deflected off of Evgeny Kuznetsov's stick.

5:37 — Aliaksei Protas off for hooking. Capitals to the PK.

First Period

20:00 — Washington leads 3-2 after goals from Connor McMichael, Tom Wilson and Sonny Milano (WSH) and James van Riemsdyk and Mason Lohrei (BOS). D.C. possesses a 12-6 lead in SOG.

17:44 — Hardy Häman Aktell showcases that physicality and gets Milan Lucic with a big hit behind the net.

15:57 — Unreal goal from Sonny Milano, who gets in tight and goes forehand to backhand to lift one past Linus Ullmark. The Capitals take a 3-2 lead.

13:39 — Wild stat: Connor McMichael leads so far with five shots through his first 3:11 minutes of ice time.

10:24 Penalty killed; it's still 2-2. Meanwhile, Nic Dowd and Beck Malenstyn appeared to work well together on that PK. Dowd mentioned that he liked playing with the 25-year-old, praising his character and ability to thrive in a utility role.

8:24 — Washington to the penalty kill. Nicolas Aube-Kubel called for a trip.

7:51 — Nicklas Backstrom great working the half-wall. Gets it to Evgeny Kuznetsov on the goal line, who makes a perfect pass to Tom Wilson in the bumper spot for the game-tying goal. 2-2.

6:51 — James van Riemsdyk called for roughing Rasmus Sandin. Washington to the power play.

6:45 — Beautiful passing between Anthony Mantha, Vincent Iorio and Aliaksei Protas. Nothing formulated of it for the Capitals, but a good look.

4:52 — Boston gets away with a penalty as Rasmus Sandin's hit with a high stick. There's no call on the play, as it's determined John Carlson got his man up high. It's 5-on-5, and Spencer Carbery's none too pleased.

2:42— The Bruins make it 2-1 as Milan Lucic sets up Mason Loehri.

0:53 — Boston responds almost immediately, as James van Riemsdyk gets one past Darcy Kuemper. Washington tied 1-1.

0:26 — Connor McMichael gets the Capitals off to a great start, scoring 26 seconds in on a rebound off a John Carlson shot. Got to the front of the net. Tom Wilson picks up the secondary assist.
