As the Washington Capitals start to prepare for the start of the season, several players are returning to MedStar Capitals Iceplex, but those who are still home are still getting their work in.
Dylan Strome is among them, as he recently skated in the "Hockey Night in Brampton" charity game in Ontario, where he went viral with quite the move in the shootout.
Strome is gearing up for what should be a bounceback season in D.C., as he gets to work with a revamped forward group. This past season, Strome had 19 goals and 39 assists for 58 points in 80 games.
Not only are players getting in work on the ice, but off the ice as well; Tom Wilson is also back home in Ontario with Paragenix and Matt Nichol this summer, and brought his son, Teddy, along to help with some of the training, including pushing weights and shooting practice.
Wilson is coming off his second consecutive 30-goal season and had 62 points in 72 games, while he also worked his way onto Team Canada's Olympic roster. He is primed to play a pivotal role once again in tandem with the team's new additions up front.
Beyond that, some former Capitals are also getting their ice time in, and on Friday, Zdeno Chara had his final skate, playing in a farewell match with several friends in his native Slovakia. Chara, who played for D.C. in 2020-21, had a fitting final tribute to the game, leaving his skates at center ice and walking off.
He also recreated his 108.8 MPH slapshot that set a NHL record for the hardest shot.
More players are expected to ramp up the work and make their way back to the District in the coming weeks ahead of training camp in late September.
