Ovechkin is still deciding on his NHL future.
The Washington Capitals are going all in this offseason, and captain Alex Ovechkin is loving what he's seen so far, according to head coach Spencer Carbery.
Carbery joined Sportsnet 590's The FAN to discuss the latest going on with the Capitals, who acquired Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch in back-to-back blockbuster trades this week.
When asked for an update on Ovechkin, who is pondering whether or not to return for another run, Carbery didn't have an answer but did note that Ovechkin is "very impressed" with the team's aggressiveness to open the offseason.
"I spoke to him this morning and he was very impressed with the moves and very happy for the organization," Carbery said.
Ovechkin said in an interview with FONBET that he will have a decision in July, but him taking an interest in the team's offseason moves and being satisfied with how it's transpired so far implies that he could be leaning toward another year.
The 40-year-old, who led the Capitals with 32 goals and 64 points while appearing in all 82 games last season, also hinted on breakdown day that he was "pretty sure" he hadn't played his last game in the NHL yet, and said that a priority for him if he chose to return was Washington being a legitimate contender for the Stanley Cup.
Washington's acquisitions of Kyrou and Tuch help with that mission, and also add more depth on the right side and give D.C. some much-needed scoring help up front. That in itself may be all Ovechkin needs to be a part of another run.
