The Washington Capitals are less than a week away from the start of training camp, but before that, their prospects and rising stars are taking the ice for rookie camp at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. All the while, there's a familiar face making his way back to the ice.

Braden Holtby is part of this year's rookie camp, taking the ice and mentoring the young goaltenders alongside fellow Capitals goaltending great Olaf Kolzig, who now works as a development coach.

Holtby doesn't have an official position with the team, but this is the second time this summer that he's taken part in coaching the team's youth, as he also worked with the team during development camp.

In addition to Holtby, there are also other headlines to keep an eye on, as 2024 first-round selection Terik Parascak, alongside Prince Georges Cougars teammate Zac Funk, is skating hard at rookie camp. The two are also joined by the likes of prospects Andrew Cristall, Ilya Protas and Alexander Suzdalev, and all of them are looking to make a major impact as they look to impress Washington at training camp.

Beyond the regular rounds of prospects, there are a couple of interesting free agent invites to take note of. There's Oasiz Wiesblatt, a scrappy forward who is looking to earn a pro contract and has put himself on the Capitals' radar with his physicality and grit. On the blue line, 6-foot-5 defenseman Ayo Adeniye has been skating with Washington over the course of the summer and has definitely stood out as well.
