Since joining the Washington Capitals organization back in 2016 as a fifth-round pick, Beck Malenstyn has established himself as a physical presence and tough guy while working toward a full-time NHL role.
And as the Hershey Bears' Calder Cup Playoff run continues, he is laying it all on the line -- and it showed in gruesome fashion as he was left in a fishbowl following numerous stitches and a black eye from a puck to the face.
Malenstyn suffered the injury in Game 3 of the Atlantic Division Finals against the Hartford Wolf Pack and fell to the ice bleeding. He went down the tunnels for repairs and left the ice for repairs before returning soon after.
Hershey won that game to sweep the series and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The 25-year-old prides himself as a utility player who plays a sound two-way game and loves laying the body, dropping the mitts and killing penalties.

Malenstyn is on the verge of making the NHL jump and could be up with the big club full-time as soon as next season. He appeared close to earning a long-term stay earlier in the season, but a broken hand led to surgery and extended time out that led to his spot being taken and a return to the Bears.
Through 40 regular season games down in the AHL, Malenstyn had 10 points. So far in the playoffs, he's made his impact felt with two goals and an assist through seven games, as well as several big hits, including one that broke the glass.
