Winnipeg's own Mike Malott celebrates a dominant Fight Night win, then swaps the octagon for the ice, connecting with Jets stars after his thrilling TKO.

One of the biggest sporting events on the calendar in Winnipeg took place Saturday night as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) brought a Fight Night card to the city, showcasing a lineup heavily featuring Canadian talent.

Held at Canada Life Centre, home of the Winnipeg Jets, the event was headlined by Canadian welterweight Mike Malott, who delivered an electrifying performance in front of the hometown crowd. Malott defeated Brazil’s Gilbert Burns by technical knockout in the third round, capping off the night with one of the most memorable moments of the card.

Following the victory, Malott shared a lighthearted moment with several Jets players in attendance, including Brayden Yager, Mark Scheifele, and Adam Lowry. The players congratulated Malott, while the Canadian fighter joked about borrowing the team’s home arena for the event, thanking the organization for hosting the UFC showcase.

The connection between Malott and the hockey world runs deeper than a single night. His brother, Jeff Malott, previously spent time within the Jets organization after signing with the Manitoba Moose as a college free agent.

He later moved on ahead of the 2024–25 season and now plays in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings. Malott is a depth winger in LA, where he has nine points in 58 games this season and is expected to play Saturday when the Kings take on the Colorado Avalanche in Game 1 of their first round series.
