Stars bolster blue line with veteran defenseman Tyler Myers, adding size and playoff experience to their Stanley Cup pursuit.

The Dallas Stars made a splash at the trade deadline on Wednesday, acquiring veteran defenseman Tyler Myers from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 fourth-round selection.

Myers, a Houston native, is expected to provide size, experience, and stability on the Stars’ blue line as Dallas pushes toward the playoffs and a potential Stanley Cup run.

Myers brings a proven track record to Dallas, having first made a major impact in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets. Back in February 2015, the Jets completed one of the franchise’s largest trades, acquiring Myers, along with forwards Drew Stafford, Joel Armia, Brendan Lemieux, and a 2015 first-round pick (which became Jack Roslovic) from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane, and goaltender Jason Kasdorf.

Myers quickly became a fan favorite in Winnipeg, playing five seasons, appearing in 270 games, recording 29 goals and 85 assists for 114 points, and posting a solid plus-40 rating. A consistent 20- to 30-point contributor throughout his career, Myers has had a challenging season in the plus-minus department, sitting at minus-25 amid Vancouver’s team struggles.

However, he has proven to be a steady defender with a combined plus-18 over the previous two campaigns. The Stars hope Myers’ veteran presence and defensive stability will be a key factor in their bid for postseason success.
