Former Winnipeg Jets backup goaltender Lauren Brossoit underwent meniscus surgery on his right knee and will be sidelined 5-7 weeks, the Chicago Blackhawks announced Wednesday. Brossoit likely won't make his debut with the Blackhawks until the regular season.

The British Columbia native was stellar for the Jets last season as Connor Hellebuyck's reliable backup. He managed a 15-5-2 record with a 2.00 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. His play helped him earn a pay raise through free agency and will see the 31-year-old work in tandem with veteran netminder Petr Mrazek.

Chicago likely won't have too difficult of a decision to make as Brossoit has been one of the league's most underrated netminders. During time with the Jets and Golden Knights, he's secured a 57-33-11 record with a 2.56 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in 112 appearances since the start of the 2018-19 season.
