Jets' top offensive prospect Kieron Walton, a prolific scorer, targets AHL debut with Manitoba Moose after injury recovery.
The Manitoba Moose are set to receive a major boost down the stretch, as top prospect Kieron Walton is expected to join the club to close out the season.
Walton, a 2024 sixth-round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, is currently recovering from an injury sustained during the OHL playoffs while skating with the Peterborough Petes. His junior season came to an abrupt end when the Petes were eliminated in a first-round upset by the North Bay Battalion.
Despite the disappointing playoff exit, Walton’s regular season showcased his high-end offensive upside. The 19-year-old Toronto native was among the most dangerous scorers in the Ontario Hockey League, recording 40 goals and 48 assists for 88 points in 62 games. His combination of finishing ability and playmaking made him a standout and quickly elevated his status within the Jets’ prospect pipeline.
Now nearing a return to full health, Walton is expected to make the jump to the professional ranks with Manitoba, where he will have an opportunity to test his game against tougher competition. While the adjustment from junior hockey to the AHL can be significant, the Jets are hopeful his offensive instincts and scoring touch can translate quickly.
