Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry underwent successful hip surgery, anticipating his rehabilitation will be 5-6 months and that he will make a full recovery.

The 32-year-old played 73 games this season, scoring 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points. Lowry played in every postseason game this season, scoring four goals in 13 games, including the Game 7 double overtime winner.

Lowry is entering the final season of a five-year, $3.25M contract he signed with the Jets in 2021. He becomes eligible for a contract extension on July 1, and both he and the team have already expressed their interest in getting a deal done sooner, rather than later.

"I love the city, love playing in front of these fans, and I think that’s something that hopefully we can take steps toward getting that out of the way this summer," said Lowry. "There's obviously a few more important pieces that will probably get done before, but I don’t see that being an issue. As long as they want to bring me back, I’m more than happy to come back. It’s such a great place to play."

Lowry is expected to miss the beginning of the season, increasing the pressure on GM Kevin Cheveldayoff to improve the centre ice position on the Jets roster.
