The Winnipeg Jets have loaned goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen to the Manitoba Moose.

The Jets had recalled Kahkonen during the 4 Nations Face-Off break as a practice player with Connor Hellebuyck unavailable. Against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, Kahkonen backed up Eric Comrie, allowing Hellebuyck to receive some much-needed rest.

The 28-year-old goaltender has played just one NHL game this season, which came with the Colorado Avalanche after they claimed him off of waivers. In his single outing, Kahkonen allowed four goals on 20 shots.

He was once again placed on waivers and was reclaimed by the Jets. The Jets then reassigned him to the AHL to join the Moose. With the Jets' AHL affiliate, the Helsinki, FIN native has a 6-13-0 record to go along with his .885 SV% and 3.34 GAA.

His struggles during the 2024-25 campaign have been noted on several occasions, but his past NHL experience is something the Jets are happy to have. He's been a role model and veteran presence for Thomas Milic and Domenic DiVincentiis as they navigate through their young careers in professional hockey.

Hellebuyck is the confirmed starter tonight against the San Jose Sharks and Comrie will be the backup.
