Stanley's breakout season sparks trade deadline intrigue. Will the Jets commit to the defenseman or cash in on his surging value?

Weeks after reports suggested that Logan Stanley wanted to remain with the Winnipeg Jets, the defenseman’s future with the team remains uncertain. Stanley, drafted 18th overall in 2016, was expected to quickly work on an extension with the team, but talks have yet to produce a deal.

TSN’s Chris Johnston reported on his podcast Thursday that the Jets “do not seem to have made any meaningful strides to sign him, but they have invested a lot of time in him and he's having a nice season.”

Stanley, 27 years old, is having a career season with 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 59 games, surpassing his previous career-high of 14 points last season. The Jets may view this breakout as an outlier and could be reluctant to meet his contract demands if he is seeking a larger salary or longer term.

The six-foot-seven defenseman has drawn interest from multiple teams across the league. Among the potential suitors is the Detroit Red Wings, who are reportedly looking to add defensive depth before the trade deadline.

With the deadline approaching Friday, Stanley’s situation is one of the more closely watched storylines for Winnipeg. If the two sides cannot reach an agreement, the Jets may ultimately consider moving him while his value is high.

The coming day and a half will be critical in determining whether Stanley remains in Winnipeg for the long term or if the Jets take advantage of a standout season to acquire assets that fit their roster and future plans.
