Barron enters concussion protocol after a punishing hit and subsequent fight, jeopardizing a career-best season and the Jets' playoff push.

The Winnipeg Jets suffered a discouraging 3–2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night, a result that further complicates their already fading playoff hopes.

Despite facing the NHL’s top-ranked team, Winnipeg managed to keep the game tight throughout, showing resilience against a Colorado squad widely viewed as a Stanley Cup favorite. Still, the narrow defeat does little to help a Jets team running out of time to climb back into the postseason picture.

The loss becomes even more concerning due to a key injury with forward Morgan Barron was placed in concussion protocol following a heavy hit from Josh Manson. In a troubling sequence, Barron, visibly shaken, attempted to fight Manson shortly after the hit and absorbed several more blows, raising further concern about his condition.

In a corresponding move, the Jets are recalling forwards Danny Zhilkin and Parker Ford on an emergency basis from the Manitoba Moose.

The 27-year-old Halifax native had been quietly putting together one of the best seasons of his career. After a strong start that saw him record five points in his first four games, Barron continued to contribute steadily, tallying 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 63 games. He had been on pace to surpass the 30-point mark for the first time, but his current status now puts that milestone in doubt.

Winnipeg’s depth, already under strain, will be tested further if Barron misses significant time. The Jets have leaned on younger players in recent weeks, including Isak Rosen and Brad Lambert, as they try to stay competitive down the stretch.

Another absence could force the organization to once again turn to its prospect pool for reinforcements. With their playoff chances slipping and injuries mounting, the Jets face an uphill battle in the final stretch of the season.
