The Golden Knights have re-signed forward Brett Howden to a two-year, $3.8 million contract, which will run through the 2024-25 season.
The restricted free agent had opted for salary arbitration, meaning his case would have been presented in front of an independent arbitrator against the Golden Knights on July 28.
Not quite an eleventh-hour deal, the two sides did manage to work things out before needing to move to a Toronto courtroom.
Howden and the Golden Knights put pen to paper on a two-year bridge deal that will pay the Oakbank, Manitoba product $1.9 million per season - a 27 percent raise from his one-year, $1.5 million contract signed last offseason.
In 279 career NHL games for the New York Rangers and Golden Knights, the 25-year-old has 31 goals, 82 points and 120 penalty minutes. He has an additional five goals, 10 points and 35 penalty minutes in 25 Stanley Cup Playoff games, to which all of his points came this past spring.
Howden, who played his AAA hockey with the Eastman Selects, spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors, before transitioning to the big leagues in 2018.
He joined Vegas in 2021 and now has a Stanley Cup and a brand new contract to his name. Howden has an estimated $5.2 million in career earnings.
