As the centerpiece of the blockbuster Connor Hellebuyck trade, this offensive dynamo joins a burgeoning Swedish core, poised to anchor the Jets' future down the middle for years.

On Friday, the Winnipeg Jets finally put an end to the Connor Hellebuyck trade saga, sending their superstar goaltender to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a substantial return.

While many Jets fans were excited about adding a 40-point middle-six forward in Dawson Mercer, a depth center in Nick Bjugstad, a reliable backup option in Nico Daws, and additional draft capital, the biggest piece of the deal may have flown under the radar in recent 12th overall pick Alexander Command.

Winnipeg general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff appears intent on continuing the organization's growing Swedish connection, acquiring the six-foot-one Swedish center who was selected just four picks after the Jets' own Swedish sensation, Viggo Björck.

Although Command is further behind in his development than Björck, the pairing presents an exciting possibility for Winnipeg's future, with the potential to secure two cornerstone centers for years to come.

While Björck has already impressed against pro competition in Sweden's top league, the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), Command has primarily made his mark at the U20 level. Skating with Örebro HK's U20 squad in the U20 Nationell, he recorded 29 goals and 35 assists for 64 points in 43 games over three seasons, showcasing the offensive instincts that made him a top-12 selection in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The 18-year-old has also received opportunities at the SHL level this season and last, but translating his junior production to the professional game has proven challenging. Through 12 career SHL appearances, Command has yet to record a point in what is a notoriously demanding, defensively structured league.

He is once again splitting time between Örebro's junior and senior squads this season, already registering 12 points in six U20 games while continuing to gain valuable experience against professional competition.

Command remains a long-term project, and Winnipeg will need to be patient as he continues to develop. However, his offensive upside, size, and potential as a future top-six center make him an intriguing addition to the organization.

While Mercer and the other pieces of the Hellebuyck trade should provide more immediate value, Command could ultimately emerge as the most significant part of the deal for Winnipeg, potentially becoming a long-term fixture down the middle alongside fellow Swede Viggo Björck.
