The Winnipeg Jets have traded for defenceman Dylan Coghlan.

The Winnipeg Jets have acquired defenceman Dylan Coghlan from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for future considerations.

Coghlan, 26, broke into the NHL with the Vegas Golden Knights, suiting up for two seasons in the gold and black, where he produced six goals, 19 points and 20 penalty minutes in 88 games.

He joined the Carolina Hurricanes in 2022-23, splitting his time between the NHL and AHL over the next two seasons.

His most productive year on record has been last season - one which he played the majority with the Springfield Thunderbirds. Coghlan scored 16 times and added 25 assists for 41 points, while picking up 40 penalty minutes as well. He only skated in one game for the Hurricanes last year.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defender is currently a restricted free agent and is due for a new contract prior to the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

With the departure of Brenden Dillon, Nate Schmidt and Kyle Capobianco on the back-end, the Jets will have a slightly different look on the blueline next season.

Current defencemen in the battle for the top-six spots include:

Josh Morrissey, Dylan DeMelo, Neal Pionk, Dylan Samberg, Logan Stanley, Ville Heinola, Haydn Fleury, Dylan Coghlan and Elias Salomonson.
