The Winnipeg Jets have a promising young prospect in Owen Martin, an 18-year-old native of Oakbank, Manitoba, who is putting together an impressive season in the Western Hockey League with the Spokane Chiefs.
Martin has already notched 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points in 54 games this season, continuing a trend of strong production that caught the Jets’ attention in last year’s draft. Selected in the third round, Martin had a near point-per-game season in 39 games, recording 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points. He also made a notable impact in the WHL playoffs, adding 12 points in 20 games.
Despite his current success, Martin is still young and likely has at least another year in juniors with Spokane before making the jump to the professional level. The hope for the Jets is that Martin can finish the season strong, surpass last year’s numbers, and continue developing his game to make the transition to the pros smoother when the time comes.
Martin has not yet been signed to an entry-level deal, meaning he is still playing for the chance to earn a spot with the Winnipeg Jets in the future. With his current trajectory, the Oakbank native is proving he has the talent and work ethic to be a key part of the Jets’ pipeline in the years to come.
