Fresh off an explosive OHL campaign, the Chinese-born winger brings his elite motor to the Manitoba Moose to prove he’s the biggest steal of the draft.
One of the Winnipeg Jets' fastest-developing prospects, and one of the most culturally historic prospects in the sport, Chinese-born winger Kevin He is expected to make a major move next season.
The 20-year-old is coming off a terrific junior season in which he recorded 39 goals and 38 assists for 77 points in 62 games in the OHL, splitting the year between the Niagara IceDogs and the Flint Firebirds after being dealt midseason. He carried that momentum into the playoffs, adding three goals and six assists for nine points in six games.
Elite Prospects has He making the jump to the pro level next season, joining the AHL's Manitoba Moose, where the six-foot, 181-pound left winger will face grown men for the first time. He is known for an elite motor that separates him from the pack, though his physicality is likely the area he'll need to adjust to early on.
Some prospects get off to slow starts at the AHL level like Winnipeg's 2023 first-round pick, Colby Barlow, who recorded just 16 points in 65 games this past season in his first full pro campaign.
He, though, was only a fourth-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft, so his ceiling remains largely unknown. His fast track to the professional ranks at such a young age is a promising sign, and his first pro season should go a long way toward telling whether the Jets have truly uncovered a draft gem.
