The main storyline that has been following around the Jets this offseason has been the status of restricted free agent Cole Perfetti and his new contract. The 22-year-old forward still hasn't agreed to a new deal just yet but recent developments have made the two parties coming to an agreement look more promising than ever.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman spoke to Perfetti's situation last Friday on his podcast "32 Thoughts" and alluded to the fact that Perfetti would like to stay in Winnipeg.
"From what I've heard, [Perfetti] still likes being a Jet and his preference is to work something out there," Friedman said "The one thing to always check is if there a reason to believe the player is unhappy there, I'm under the impression that's not the case and Perfetti is happy being a Jet."

In addition to Friedman's comments, Perfetti attended the NHL's Player Media Tour this week as the representative for the Winnipeg Jets. Friedman noted that fellow restricted free agent Jeremy Swayman was also supposed to attend the media tour as the Boston Bruins' representative but opted not to go due to his contract talks not going well. This could signal that the Jets and Perfetti are still on visibly good terms.

Perfetti wanting to stay on the Jets while also representing the team on a league stage makes his chances of re-signing seemingly good and could mean a new deal will happen at some point in the near future.
The Whitby native is coming off his third season with the Jets in which he finished with 19 goals and 19 points for 38 points in 71 games. Early projections from The Hockey News have Perfetti slated for a top six role next season playing alongside Nikolaj Ehlers and Vladislav Namestnikov on the second line.
