Enforcers in hockey are a dying breed. There are very few left in the NHL, and it has trickled down into the junior leagues. However, there’s one player who makes his presence known as an enforcer every time he steps onto the ice.

Brantford Bulldogs’ gritty winger Ryder Boulton is the definition of an enforcer. A two-time OHL Champion with the London Knights, the Bulldogs wanted his character and toughness on their squad for their championship push. GM Spencer Hyman traded a seventh-round pick for Boulton in the summer, and he’s come as advertised.

Boulton was the first player this season to receive an automatic two-game suspension for exceeding the fighting threshold limit. And he’ll be seeing the press box once again for the next four games.

The OHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday, Jan. 7, that Boulton has been suspended for four games for his blindside hit on Guelph Storm forward Carter Stevens.

The play happened early in the third period. Boulton caught Stevens in the corner, but was only assessed a two-minute minor for blindsiding on the play. As per the OHL, the league prompted a review due to Stevens suffering an injury from the play.

Boulton served the first game of his suspension on Wednesday, watching his squad win 4-2 against the Niagara IceDogs. He will miss their next three games against London, Windsor, and Peterborough. He is eligible to return to the Bulldogs’ lineup on Jan. 17 against Kingston.
