The London Knights' scouting department and development team are among the best in not just the OHL, but the entire CHL. They completely revamped their roster during the 2021 draft by selecting Denver Barkey, Easton Cowan, and Oliver Bonk with their first three picks. In the 2022 draft, they also found valuable talent outside the first round, selecting Sam O'Reilly, William Nicholl, Jared Woolley, and Rene Van Bommel. And members of their 2025 draft class have emerged as some of the top performers in the GOHL this season.
We mention this because they have another young player who has had a strong rookie campaign after developing in the GOHL last season.
London Knights defenseman Caleb Mitchell has been named the OHL’s Rookie of the Week (ROTW).
Mitchell was drafted 39th overall in the second-round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. The 5-foot-11 left-shot blueliner recorded four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in three games this past week. He started the week off recording his second multi-assist game of the season in London’s 5-4 overtime win over Owen Sound last Wednesday.
London had an impressive 4-0 shutout victory over the Barrie Colts on Saturday, where Mitchell recorded another multi-point game (1 goal, 1 assist). The Omemee, Ontario, native is now up to two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 27 games this season. He’s also a +13, tied with Jared Woolley for the team’s best plus/minus rating.
Mitchell is the second Knights rookie to win the OHL ROTW this year. His teammate, Jaxon Cover, won the award back in week four.
