Notably, there will be three American teams participating, an increase from the two that competed in previous years. Additionally, Ontario Prep teams such as Upper Canada College and Hill Academy will be taking part.
With the new tournament layout, the OHL has started to include the American and Ontario prep teams in their weekly OHL Cup power rankings. Week 4’s top-10 rankings have two American squads at the top.
Detroit HoneyBaked remained in the number-one spot, still riding a high after taking home the 2025 U16 Whitby Silver Stick tournament, and their city rivals, Detroit Little Caesars, moved into the number-two spot over Upper Canada College.
The GTHL, notoriously, has dominated these weekly rankings, but the competition is much more fierce this year. The Toronto Jr. Canadiens stayed at number four, one spot ahead of the Vaughan Kings, who have a projected top-five pick in the draft, defenseman Adrian Sgro.
The GTHL’s Don Mills Flyers also didn’t move from their number-seven spot, but one of the most famous and prestigious GTHL clubs made their first appearance in the top-10 of the season.
The Toronto Marlboros moved up into the number-nine spot, as they are riding a current six-game winning streak. The “Marlies,” as they are usually called, have moved ahead of the Don Mills Flyers in the U16 AAA standings for the GTHL, which included a 4-3 win over the Flyers last Friday.
The Marlies are led by defenseman Jaden Licastro and forward Braden Reilly, two players who have attracted significant attention from OHL scouts.
GTHL’s top U16 prospects will take part in the annual GTHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 28, 2026, at Canlan Sports York.
