The Barrie Colts add USHL forward Michael Tang in a trade from the Niagara IceDogs
The Niagara IceDogs have traded Forward Michael Tang to the Barrie Colts in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2028 OHL Priority Selection.
Tang, 17, was a fourth round pick of the IceDogs in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, 78th overall. Tang, a New York native, spent last season in the USHL with the Madison Capitals, having nine goals, 18 assists, & 27 points in 57 games.
Internationally, Tang appeared in five games for the United States at the 2026 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, netting an assist. Tang has appeared for both Canada and the United States in select tournaments, but never in a major event.
Tang did not suit up for Niagara, choosing to play his D-1 season in the United States after spending his junior career in Canada with the GTHL Toronto Titans.
In a statement, Barrie Colts general manager Marty Williamson welcomed Tang to the team, confirming that he would be playing for the club this season.
Michael’s offensive talent is intriguing and exciting. He played in the USHL last year against older players and is ready to make an impact in the OHL. After spending last season developing in the USHL and gaining experience on the international stage, Tang will now make the transition to the OHL and join the Colts for the 2026-27 season.
Tang is committed to Harvard University, where he is expected to join in the 2027-28 NCAA season. Niagara signed Tang to an OHL contract agreement in July.
The trade is the second for the Colts in the same number of days, having moved 2025 first round pick Alexander Sementsov to the Brantford Bulldogs on Wednesday, acquiring the same 2028 fifth round pick they used to acquire Tang.
