Canada's World Juniors Coaching Staff has been announced

Hockey Canada has announced their coaching staff for the 2025 World Juniors set to take place in Ottawa later this year.

It’s quite fitting with the tournament being held in the nation’s capital that Ottawa 67’s Head Coach Dave Cameron has been named Canada’s Head Coach for the IIHF tournament.

Cameron has plenty of experience behind a Canadian bench in international play, having last served as Canada’s Head Coach at the 2022 World Juniors, where he helped lead them to a gold medal victory.

Additionally, he won gold as an assistant coach at the 2009 World Juniors and a silver medal as an assistant once again in the following year in 2010. Then, he earned a worthy promotion to head coach at the 2011 World Juniors where he won silver.

Cameron has served as the bench boss of the 67’s in the OHL for the past three seasons and won Coach of the Year in 2022-23 after leading them to a 51-12-3-2 record in the regular season, but sadly lost in six games in the playoffs to Peterborough.

Dave Cameron will be joined by Sean Young, the 67’s Head of Athlete Performance, who will act as Canada’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Saginaw Spirit Head Coach Chris Lazary is fresh off a Memorial Cup win and has a bright future of being a coach for an extremely long time. Hockey Canada has recognized that and named him as an assistant coach for Canada.

Lazary has been with the Spirit organization since 2016, starting as an assistant coach before taking over as the head coach on Nov. 18, 2018, and leading them to a Western Conference Finals appearance.

Saginaw did not make the playoffs in 2021-22. However, this helped them secure exceptional status 2007-born Michael Misa as the first overall pick in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection.

Lazary and the Spirit went all-in this past year, loading up at the trade deadline in preparation for hosting the 2024 Memorial Cup.

After posting a 50-16-1-1 record in the regular season and losing in six to the London Knights in the Western Conference Finals, Saginaw got their revenge and beat the Knights 4-3 in the Memorial Cup Final.

Two additional support staff members from OHL teams will also represent Canada at the 2025 World Juniors.

Andy Brown, the Athletic Therapist for the Owen Sound Attack, has been named one of two athletic therapists for Canada.

Brantford Bulldogs Equipment Manager Chris Cook is returning to his third consecutive World Juniors as Canada's equipment manager.
