On Wednesday, the Flint Firebirds announced the signing of 16-year-old free agent George Komadoski to a Standard Player Agreement. The young defender played spent last season paying for Mount St. Charles Academy.

"Flint seems like the perfect fit for me," said Komadoski. "I can't wait to be a part of the Firebirds' organization and to get to work with the team and coaching staff."

Komadoski put up 20 assists and scored zero goals in 57 games with Mount St. Charles. At 6-foot-3, he's a big defender whose biggest strength is moving the puck up ice. He should primarily be seen as a shut-down defender who uses his size and stick to disrupt the opposing team's offense.

Born in St. Louis, Komadoski comes from a strong hockey bloodline. His father, Neil Komadoski Jr., played in the AHL for the Binghampton Senators and Peoria Rivermen, while his grandfather, Neil Komadoski Sr., played over 500 NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues

Former Nashville Predator David Legwand maintains a minority stake in the team.

Neil Komadoski Jr. is currently employed as a scout for the Vancouver Canucks.

The Firebirds were eliminated in the first round of the 2025 OHL Playoffs after finishing sixth in the Western Conference.

Komadoski joins a pretty young D-corps in Flint. The majority of the team's defenders are 2007 and 2008-born players. Matthew Mania and Urban Podrekar are the only older players. However, there is a chance one of the two overagers does not return due to the OHL's overage rules.

Either way, there should be plenty of room for Komadoski who will slot in as one of the taller defenders on the team.
